Yurimaguas, Peru is genuine. It is the real deal. What you see is what you get. That’s why I like it here.

Walking down by the muddy Rio Huallaga you can take a glimpse of how the people live in the jungle town of Yurimaguas. It is a hard yet honorable way of life. A person might stack heavy lumber from the barges into waiting tractor-trailers for living. Heavy red timber from the Amazon rain forest stains your shirt a crimson red.

Walking home after the long day you wash yourself with buckets of brown water from the Rio Huallaga. Sitting on your worn timber furniture you relax with a cold pilsner. After giving your kids some affection, you wander into the kitchen and bend the old lady over the kitchen table, while the hot oil in the skillet vents the aroma of the evenings spread.

Just stroll down to where the barges and boats sit and the departure times are posted on small billboards. If you find a vessel of your liking, then just inquire within about purchasing your passage.
